Things to watch on Netflix during lockdown

Okay, so right now we all have a lot of time on our hands. Our previous post (here) was all about the ways you can utilise this time we have and do something proactive while we stand by that, and are slowly working our way through the list of things to do.. sometimes you just want to relax in front of the TV and watch something on TV which will capture your imagination and let you escape reality for a little while.

We have decided to put together this small list of some of the Netflix programs which we have really enjoyed recently and have left a memorable mark - be warned most of these selections are not family friendly!

This is not an exhaustive list of all of the great stuff that's out there and available to watch but hopefully you will find something in here that you haven't watched yet, and if not why not drop us a DM on instagram with your suggestions.

Some TV we think you should watch:

Ozark

At the time of writing this blog post, the 3rd Season of this fantastic series is about to start. That's probably also the reason why this selection made it to the top of the list. It's on my mind that I need to watch S.3 Ep.1 tonight! This dark drama has elements of humour in it and has fantastic standout performances by Jason Bateman, Laura Linney and Peter Mullan. Definitely not one to watch with the kids.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness

Wow, we've recently finished watching this short docu-series set in Oklahoma and following the crazy story around a mullet-wearing, gun-toting zookeeper named Joe Exotic. If you think Joe Exotic is a strange character, keep watching. This brilliant documentary almost reminds me of Making a Murderer in the way it is put together. Episode to episode, you cannot predict what will happen next. A Must watch.

I am not okay with this

Honestly, at first I wasn't that taken by the premise of this drama-series. I'm incredibly glad I clicked play though. This funny American coming-of-age drama takes some big twists and turns and is not like anything else out there just now. Featuring the talents of Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Oleff who coincidentally worked alongside one another in the remake of Stephen King's I.T. This is an easy watch, and turns the stereotypical format on it's head.

Uncut gems

Uncut Gems is Adam Sandler's latest movie about a charismatic jeweller who makes a high-stakes bet that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime. Uncut Gems is a dark comedy by an actor I've never really thought much of. However, I found this movie entertaining and thought Adam Sandler was excellent as Howard Ratner. It has had very mixed reviews online but I think most people will agree, if your in isolation and thinking how bored you are, Uncut gems will remind you that life can be a lot more stressful.

You

You is a thiller with a unique perspective. A story narrated through the eyes of a bookstore manager who forms a crush with an aspiring female writer but soon becomes a something of a more sinister obsession.
Now in it's second season with a third on it's way. The story is very captivating and incredibly easy to binge. Although, I don't know how much they can push this narrative in season three, there's no doubt I will make time to watch it when it's released and recommend you to make a start on it too.

Dont F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer

Another docu-series which will have you totally gripped. Its dark and menacing, but the story in one that almost defies belief. About a twisted criminal's gruesome videos which are posted online, a group of amateur sleuths launch a risky manhunt that brings them into a dark underworld. Definitely worth a watch and something you will be talking about with you friends and family after.

Peaky Blinders

Set in 1919. Peaky blinders follows a criminal gang trying to make their way to the top in Post WWI Birmingham. Featuring sharp suits and even sharper haircuts. The series follows the Shelby's who are ruthless and brutal. Now in it's 5th season. If your looking for something to really invest yourself in for a good while. Peaky Blinders is surely it. Featuring Cillian Murphy, Paul Anderson, Tom Hardy and Helen McCrory.

Inside number 9

Another one, like Peaky Blinders that's made it's way over from the BBC. This series of darkly comic tales each take place inside a building/room or place that has the number nine on it. No matter the location, they are the sites of tales with unexpected twists and turns that in many cases can be horrifying. From the writers Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton who have brought us The League of Gentlemen and Psychoville, you can probably get an idea of the kind of atmosphere Inside number 9 has.

Black Mirror

Black mirror is an anthology series that revolves around a group of peoples lives and how they interact with technology and how it manipulates their behaviour. Each episode is complete seperate in terms of narrative, style and cast, however, the theme of technology in a dystopian context runs throughout the series and really makes you think. There are now 5 series of Black mirror, each season containing some real gems. Personally i found the latest season didn't hit the same mark the previous ones did. but you can be the judge of that.
